Yellow Line

Hebrews 12:2 - Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (NIV)

We are blessed to have a walking/biking trail around our lake. The path is paved and has a yellow line down the middle to help walkers and bikers be safe. As I was riding today, there were not many people around, so I took notice of the yellow line. As I began to follow it, I noticed that it was by no means straight but had many curves in it. How come I never noticed how wavy it was before today? I usually ride looking towards what's in front of me and to my left and right. As I looked down and focused on the line, I was not able to pay attention to what was around me, and also, my speed decreased.

We can go through life in a similar way with our heads down. Circumstances can push us to focus on the immediate situation that we are facing and become so wrapped up in it that we keep looking down, not noticing what's around us and before us. I sense that many people who don't know Jesus live very much like this, trying to hold onto what is right before them with no hope for the future.

But we who are believers have the One who gives us hope through His precious promises and helps us to look beyond our immediate situation. We also have a body of believers in our lives to come alongside and encourage us to look to the author and finisher of our life and all that Jesus has and wants for us to experience.

2 Timothy 1:8-9 - So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God, who has saved us and called us to a holy life -- not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time. (NIV)

We have been given the gift of eternal life, and we can encourage others and make a difference in the lives of people who find themselves stuck on the yellow line of life.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You that You are the way, the truth, and the life. Help us to speak hope and life into people who are struggling. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
